Under the Hood - Overview

Lune is not an app, an amp, or an AI bot; it is a multidisciplinary approach to playing games and creating music, hiding the complexity for those who just want to play and have fun.

Playing music can often be repetitive and boring, especially if it involves exercises that don't seem immediately relevant. We've worked tirelessly to create an experience that removes the boredom to playing music. You focus on playing, and we'll take care of the rest.

At Lune, we believe that technology should work behind the scenes, subtly enhancing every aspect of the experience we deliver. It's not about it taking center stage but seamlessly integrating it for a fun experience. Our engagement is built into the ever growing collection of games paired with learning a real world instrument.

Current Landscape in Playing & Learning Music

Many innovations have emerged with apps and online learning for music and instruments, these digital aids offer an engaging way to learn and play music. Certain platforms offer interactive exercises for musicians, including chord progressions, scales, and ear training. With the advent of AI, the way we play and learn musical instruments is undergoing a significant transformation - real-time feedback, analyzing a player’s technique and providing instant corrections to improve their skills.

However, there still remains a gap between the number of people using these technologies (apps & platforms) and those who actually acquire the skills to play an instrument. One of the biggest challenges in learning a musical instrument is overcoming the boredom of practicing and keeping the learner engaged long enough to acquire the skills. A contrast to these apps and AI technologies, Guitar Hero-like experiences use a game-like interface to teach rhythm, timing, and coordination, albeit in a simplified and non-instrumental context. While it didn't teach players to play actual instruments, it inspired interest in music and rhythm, potentially leading some players to pursue real instruments.

Introducing Lune - A Console For Musical Instruments

A groundbreaking product that merges the engaging, fun elements of Guitar Hero-like games with the educational aspects of music learning into a single console designed for real musical instruments. Lune uses a plethora of technologies to bridge the gap and meld all facets of music creation, regardless of skill level or age.

Software

MUSIC COMPUTER INTERFACE

An architecture designed to work with real-world instruments, featuring low-latency audio processing, playback, and visualization of sound and music fundamentals. Our 3D graphics engine designed for music instruments, integrated with our hardware, enables the delivery of music driven games, all visualized through a high-resolution touchscreen for interactive experiences.

Our hardware and software combo is made to work right out of the box with your musical instruments—no extra accessory needed. Just grab your instrument, plug in, and dive into a fun gaming and music experience!

Hardware

COMMUNITY COMPUTING

Our hardware philosophy is very similar to that of Raspberry PI. We value flexibility, affordability, and community-driven innovation. By using open-source modules, we ensure our products are accessible to developers, customizable, and extensible. Our goal is to empower developers, music enthusiasts, and even those with basic technical skills to engage with the hardware and create meaningful experiences.

We are creating a custom board that utilizes industrial-grade compute modules. This board will be central to handling real-time audio processing and controlling the peripherals, including the vibrant LEDs in our product. In addition, we've been developing an API access layer that allows developers to build and integrate peripheral devices, enabling them to connect MIDI controllers, OSC devices or other RPI compatible sensors to Lune seamlessly.

Our community computing approach to hardware helps us constantly iterate and deliver low latency audio processing and the best sound.

INDUSTRIAL DESIGN

LEGO LIKE ASSEMBLY

Lune has been a labor of love; made with the utmost care and attention to detail. The design process has taken many revisions to perfect, starting with inspiration from Italian furniture and finishing with careful craftsmanship and the expertise of our team. Each Lune is then hand-assembled. We are grateful for the unwavering support of our partners whose contributions have made our production journey possible.

Inspired by everyday furniture and kitchen design, we built Lune with a modular, Lego-like assembly. This allows us to hand-assemble hundreds of Lune units in just a few hours instead of days.  Embracing this modularity in this process significantly reduces our overhead.

We understand that both music and style are personal, and everyone has their own preferences. That's why we made Lune customizable. You have the ability to choose your own sounds and play the songs you like but also be in control of the colors, materials, and patterns that fit your style. Choose from our existing palettes that complement your space, or collaborate with us to design a custom palette tailored specifically for your environment.
